Make no mistake about it, E.C. Matthews has brought his game to a new level this spring and has seen interest come from schools in the Big East, Big Ten, Pac 12, Southeastern, and Big 12 conferences, but he told XOFan this evening that he has four schools that stand out in his mind and are currently the leaders for his signature this fall.

“Right now I have four schools that lead heading into the summer,” E.C. Matthews told XOFan. “They are Iowa, Indiana, Iowa State, and Minnesota!”

“I know my coaches are hearing from other schools,” Matthews continued. “But, this is the four schools I’m considering at this point.”

When asked what put this group above the rest Matthews explained.

They all do a great job using their guards and have a great history using three guard sets, the coaches really know how to develop their guards.”

“Plus I really have a good relationship with the coaches,” He continued. “I really feel comfortable with the coaches at Iowa, Indiana, and Iowa State. I’m just getting to know the coaches at Minnesota, as they are the new comer to my list, but they seem like good guys too!”

Matthews has had a great spring with “The Family” EYBL squad, where he has shown he can run the show or step to the wing and make things happen offensively. Matthews is an explosive combo can knock down three or get to the rim and finish versus contact. He has ability to the create drive or shot off the dribble, and has a 6’7 inch wing span that allows him to rebound like a wing and take away dribble drive lanes on defensive end. He is a stellar athlete who is working on pull-up game to go with handle and pass as he told us at the LeBron James Skills Academy!

“I’m really learning a lot here by playing against the nation’s best,” Matthews told XOFan. “And one of the things I’m really going to work on hard this summer and throughout next season is recognizing when it is the right time to stop and pull-up and stick my jumper.”

“I’ve always been a drive and finish guy, especially versus contact, but the coaches here have made me realize what a pull-up game can mean to me and to my teammates. It will make me a better scorer and passer and really round out my game!”

We look forward to continuing to follow this talented combo as he builds his game, and moves forward and looks to make his college choice. Stay tuned for more on his recruiting and summer play, right here at XOFan.com.

Editor’s note: Other schools who have been mentioned with Matthews include Arizona, Michigan, DePaul, USC, Providence, Nebraska, Michigan State, and Xavier.
