Illinois Fighting Illini add Windy City point
John Groce and his Illini staff have added some much needed help at the point with the addition of Windy City lead guard Jaylon Tate from Chicago Simeon High.
Tate is a pass first point who knows how to get the ball to the open man. He has a great first step and can really accelerate with the ball in the open court. He has good court vision and a knack for seeing and then delivering the rock to his teammates. He is an excellent on ball defender who can get after it for 94-feet. He can also knock down jumper if left alone, so defense has to respect him on the perimeter. He will add much needed help at the point for the Illini next fall in Champaign.
He chose Illinois over Ohio U, Northwestern, and Western Kentucky
He joins his Meanstreets and Simeon teammate Kendrick Nunn, along with 6-6 wing Malcolm Hill and 6-10 center Maverick Morgan in the Illini Class of 2013.
They are still in the hunt for top 100 prospects 6-8 power forward Austin Colbert (NJ) and 6-3 shooting guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes.
