In search of his first scholarship offer, 2013 Palm Bay (Fla.) Bayside High School safety Ruggery Miclisse has had a great senior season so far.

“Everything is going good,” Miclisse said. “They call me a ball-hawk around here because I caught three picks so far this season and one in the spring game.”

Three colleges are currently recruiting him, but more are expected to come into the mix as his season continues.

FIU, Illinois and Iowa State have been showing me interest,” Miclisse said. “This is my first season playing safety—last year and my sophomore year I played corner—so they told me they will come watch our games to see how I play. Hopefully I get that offer real soon the way I have been playing.”

Florida International is an in-state program that has caught his attention after visiting during the summer with his 7-on-7 teammate.

“I like Coach Navarro,” Miclisse said. “When I went down to visit with Caleb Alves, he showed me around. He’s a real cool dude, cracking jokes and stuff. I like their weight room, how big it was. I like their facilities and how everybody was treating me. I love it.”

The University of Illinois liked what they saw last spring and wants to get him up on a visit.

“Their defensive coordinator came to my spring game and some of my spring practices. I got in contact with them over the summer a few times and they told me to set up a visit.”

Defensive back and close friend of Miclisse, Deon Brumfield has been spreading the word about the Cyclone’s program to him.

“One of my mentors who played safety went to Iowa State, Deon Broomfield,” Miclisse said. “I talked to him a couple of times and he told me stuff. He talked about how the city, fans and school are great. I would love to play DB in the Big 12, all they do is pass the ball.”

Miclisse, 6-foot-2 and 194-pounds, is looking for good teammates, fan base and facilities in a college.
