Hawkeyes Add Jok to the Fold
The Iowa Hawkeyes had just one scholarship to give in their class of 2013 and they filled it Sunday after West Des Moines Valley’s Peter Jok gave them a verbal commitment.
Jok was once considered one of the top players in the Class of 2013, but a pair of knee injuries set him back over the past few years. We wrote about Jok’s return back in June and while his play was not consistent this past summer, he showed flashes of his former self.
Fast forward three months to a September open gym with Iowa coach Fran McCaffery in attendance and Jok did enough for McCaffery to reaffirm Iowa’s offer to Jok. Iowa came back to West Des Moines a week ago and asked Jok to come over this past weekend for an official visit.
Jok made the trip and gave the Hawkeyes his pledge.
At worst, Jok will give the Hawkeyes as second serious perimeter threat in addition to Josh Oglesby, something they need. However, if Jok can recapture some of that ‘bounce’ he had which wowed recruiting analysts and college coaches a few years back, the Hawkeyes could have landed a steal. The risk seems minimal since he will be able to contribute to an area of need and there is considerable upside. Jok and other players can sign binding letters of intent in mid-November.
