Iowa Lands Ohio Running Back
Two days after Iowa lost running back Greg Garmon to transfer the Hawkeyes have landed a more bruising back in the form of Leshun Daniels.
Daniels is from Warren, Ohio and is 6-0/215. When you watch his film (which you can below) you may come away feeling that he is a good fit for the Iowa style and/or the style of backs Iowa has had the most success with in the Kirk Ferentz era.
As a senior, Daniels ran for over 1,600 yards and 15 rushing touchdowns. He was first team all state in Division 1 and was a Big 22 selection. He originally committed to Boston College but they had a coaching change which opened the door for the Hawkeyes.
When you watch his clips you’ll notice he took a lot of snaps out of power I sets along with single back sets. He plays a very, very physical brand of football and is not shy of contact and doesn’t have elite straight line speed to rely on. He is also used to running in traffic and reading where the hole might be as opposed to just getting the ball on toss sweeps and relying on his jets to create a hole. Crafty, physical and a good fit in Iowa’s system? Looks like it.
From an overall build standpoint he ‘looks’ like Shonn Greene…I am not saying he plays at that level, just saying that it’s a similar build to what Greene had when he came to Iowa, physically reading to play the game.
