It’s still HawkeyeNation.com, it’s still free and it’s still wall to wall black and gold coverage and commentary.  However, things will look a little bit different.

You’ll see one click social media sharing options on the left hand side of every story. We’d greatly appreciate it if you’d help spread the word about this site by using those tools. You’ll also notice a cleaner look and layout to the content pages. We’ve moved the resources to the forums and tried to include more white space and not fill every last pixel with ‘stuff’.  Our old content will be archived and easily located on the message boards (or will be shortly) and those items will still be searchable and indexed by the search engines.

HawkeyeNation.com is also thrilled to be one of the founding websites in the XOFan.com Network, an exciting new (and free) way that sports fans across the nation will consume their favorite team’s news and coverage.

This won’t be a network as you’ve come to know them. The sites who will be a part of XOFan will be independently owned and operated in most instances.  They will have some say as to the look and feel of the content portion of their website as well as hosting their own message board communities.  However, the independent publishers, through banding together in this lower case ‘n’ network, can combine their collective coverage muscle and make a much greater impact by working together.

Also, if you love recruiting, XOFan will have a team of recruiting writers who will be working on content; content that will be shared on the platform and team specific message boards throughout the nation.  All of it is 100% free, as well as a searchable recruiting database that will serve as an amazing content aggregator, bringing in free items from across the nation including articles, photos and videos.  The database will be released in the coming weeks.

While there are not many sites in the network at this time, the family will grow over the next several months and year. Several sites have expressed interest in joining in the fun but wanted to see the platform in operational mode first.  I agreed to move HawkeyeNation.com’s content portion onto this platform and help XOFan fine tune their offering to attract more publishers in the future.  I was sold on the look and feel, some of the ‘under the hood’ aspects that are an improvement to what we had before as well as the notion that independent publishers can be better together than on their own.

For now, it’s the same HawkeyeNation.com content you have come to expect and your ability to get that free has not changed. You’ll begin to see more and more sites and writers join in the fun and that content may be of interest to you as time goes by.

So sit back and enjoy the ride!

Love it! Old site had way too much stuff on it. Constant auto playing videos were also annoying. Thank you

The autoplay videos are not going away. Those will only appear on content pages and not the message boards.

Will there be an app for android like the last one. Mine quit working once the site updated

We are not saying ‘no never’ to an app but its going to need to be at least revenue neutral before we bring something back. We have a sales team now who is working on selling ads for it.

Jon, outstanding, the new site is everything a Hawkeye fan could ask for, since I’m now down in Florida I check the site every morning. That you’re still free is great, I was also checking my old home town paper The Iowa City Press Citizen, but since they want $8.00 a month, it’s not worth it. Keep up the excellent coverage, maybe this season turns into another 2002but i doubt it, no Brad Banks.

So there is no more HawkeyeNation Android app?? That is not good news. My app still has the articles and such on it, but no message boards. I was under the impression that a TON of people used the app so I’m surprised that you did away with it.

A lot of people did use the app. But one of the things we learned after several months is that resulted in a shift away from the website via the browser, which costs us a lot of revenue. This is a free site and we depend on advertising to pay its bills and my bills. That, and there was an ownership issue with the app code. So we had to take it down regardless. I have a sales team trying to monetize mobile ads and potential app sponsorships, and once we can get that taken care of we’ll bring a new app back.

Otherwise, the site looks great. I’m just really disappointed about the app. I spent hours on that thing.

Thanks for the explanation, I appreciate that.

I would love to see the app comeback. This site and most other sites are blocked on my work computer so I relay on the mobile app to stay up to date on things.
