Minnesota Golden Gophers quarterback Marqueis Gray injured his leg against Western Michigan on Saturday, leaving the game in favor of Max Shortell.  He was taken off the cart and more than a few Gopher fans were worried about the long term prognosis.

According to this item in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Gray will miss two to four weeks with a high ankle sprain.

“High ankle sprains are usually a month,” Coach Jerry Kill said. “Now, how bad the sprain is, is (the question). There are different degrees. I don’t think anybody knows the degree (yet). We’ll see if he’s swelled up, how he moves on Monday.”

The item also noted that cornerback Martez Shabazz will miss a few weeks with a dislocated toe.

Shortell went 10-of-17 for 188 yards and one interception in place of Gray and did so last year when Gray was recovering from Turf Toe.  Minnesota hosts 1-2 Syracuse this week before starting Big Ten play at Iowa on September 29th.
