Tubby Smith and his Minnesota Golden Gophers staff added some immediate help up front with the commitment of 6-8 juco power forward Daniel Edozie from Tyler CC, TX. We caught up with Tyler head Coach Mike Marquis and he filled us in on Edozie’s decision.

“He just felt that Minnesota was the right fit for him,” Coach Marquis told XOFan. “Tubby and his staff did a great job being on him early and staying with him from day one.”

“He has the kind of tools that fit the Big ten,” Marquis continued. “He is a physical rebounder who can finish around the hoop with length, or pop out and knock down 15-footer with regularity.”

Look for Edozie to challenge for an immediate starting spot next fall and give the Gophers a mature, yet very athletic power man who can compete with the best in the Big Ten.

He joins shooting guard Alvin Ellis in the Gophers’ 2013 class.

Editor’s Note: Edozie changed his mind just before signing day and inked with Iowa State.
