Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) University School has a lot of Division 1 talent including 2013 linebacker Skai Moore. He’s been having a great senior season so far, even earning MVP honors after performing well against Trotwood-Madison (Ohio). XOFan.com caught up with Moore to talk about his most recent game against Cocoa (Fla.) High School and recruiting.

“Defensively, we had a plan and executed,” Moore said of his game last Friday. “Coach Chad (Wilson), the defensive coordinator, always has a great scheme for us to be successful. He put us in the right places and relies on us to make plays and that’s what we did.”

“Right now, I am considering Rutgers, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest. They are the three schools that I’m really considering.”

And that’s exactly what happened as the University School Suns beat the Cocoa Tigers, 49-3. It was a victory that led to a national ranking. Watching on were several college coaches from Rutgers University.

“Rutgers is one of the top schools I’m considering, so having Head Coach (Kyle) Flood out there and Coach (Dave) Cohen really got me focused. I wanted to show out for them.”

Rutgers is joined by two other colleges that make up his top three. “Right now, I am considering Rutgers, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest. They are the three schools that I’m really considering.”

Vanderbilt opened up their season with a loss against South Carolina, but it was how they played the game that caught Moore’s attention.

“I got to see the South Carolina game and was very impressed as well,” Moore said. “Coach (James) Franklin is turning that program around. When I went up there for a visit during the summer, I felt really comfortable with the players and the coaches. They are really good guys.”

“For me, it’s finding a place that I’m most comfortable at,” Moore said. “And obviously have a good academic program as well as football program.”

Moore, 6-foot-2 and 210-pounds, talked about the last of his top three (*not indicating an order).

Wake Forest is a good program as well,” Moore said. “They have had a history of sending some linebackers to the NFL. They are a school that I’m still considering.”

As far as official visits go, student-athletes have five their senior year. Although Moore is considering several, he is putting emphasis on visiting the Commodores.

“I am going to try and make an official to Wake Forest, but the one priority I’m having is Vanderbilt,” Moore said. “Rutgers, I went up during the summer and spent a good amount of time up there, like three days. I got to really see the campus and got to build a bond with the players. Vanderbilt is the one I am focusing on trying to get to. The only other school I am thinking about is Wisconsin, if I do, because they are a school that recently jumped out. So, that’s another school I am considering taking a visit to. I have a good relationship with Coach (Charlie) Partridge, he’s been around a lot.”

After his visits are all said and done—which is when he’ll likely make his decision—he will be looking for a few key factors in a college program.

“For me, it’s finding a place that I’m most comfortable at,” Moore said. “And obviously have a good academic program as well as football program.”
